The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
