Jurgen Klopp admits a return to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains a possibility. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-season tenure featuring a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, has since taken on roles overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and as an advisor with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the league title in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would welcome the possibility that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with the podcast host: “I declared I refuse to lead a different club within the country. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yes. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, that means I could make the decision down the line, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I can just see how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations would need to occur to bring him back to the dugout, he revealed he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “No longing for management; No desire to be during downpours through long matches; No need for media briefings four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad enjoying conversation, is pleasant. With many victories thus frequently a very good mood in the building. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, praising him for the adjustments that took the title last term. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in all competitions post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the suggestion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. The French striker, excellent performer. This is a well-built balanced team. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The Portugal international was killed in a vehicle collision alongside his brother recently.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the dressing room without him in it. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A profound tragedy for all the boys as well. No one within the club might employ it as an excuse yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Coping with it on a personal level is challenging. Overwhelming.”
