Fury Surges as Trump's Comments on Director Rob Reiner Draws Fierce Criticism

Personalities from across the partisan spectrum and the Hollywood industry are uniting to denounce former President Donald Trump for his statements following the tragic passing of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Online Post

After the couple were found dead at their Brentwood residence, Trump posted on his platform to describe the deceased director as "anguished and suffering". In a post, he claimed Reiner's demise was "because of the anger he caused others through his enormous, relentless, and incurable condition with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

The post quickly shifted to praising his own achievements, juxtaposing Reiner's alleged "intense obsession" and "clear paranoia" with what Trump called the "unprecedented era of America".

Law Enforcement Developments and Arrest

Authorities have since confirmed the arrest of the Reiners' 32-year-old son, Nick, on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident. Reports indicate his bond was established at a substantial sum.

A Wave of Condemnation from Celebrities and Politicians

The response to Trump's post was immediate and harsh.

This is a vile and despicable comment,” said actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who described Reiner a friend, also condemned the statements. She pointed to previous comments from Trump about the killing of an activist, demanding, "Do you have no shame? Is it possible to get any worse?"

The state of California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, simply wrote, "He is a sick man."

Mirroring this view, US House member Maxwell Alejandro Frost declared, "What a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "He's just crossed a line. Now implying the Reiners caused their own murder because they opposed him. Deeply disturbing."

Criticism from Within Party

Some GOP elected officials also voiced dismay.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the event was "a family tragedy, not about politics or rivals". She also mentioned struggles with substance abuse and psychological well-being within families.

Another GOP representative, Thomas Massie, called Trump's remarks "unacceptable and disgraceful" considering the nature of the deaths. He openly dared members in his political party to justify the comments.

Reiner's History and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a outspoken critic of Donald Trump. In a previous interview, he stated Trump was "mentally unfit" for the presidency. He had also warned about the dangers of authoritarian rule if Trump return to power.

"We see authoritarianism on the rise around the world," Reiner noted. "If we fall, there’s a risk that democratic systems collapse around the world."

Regardless of his strong opposition, Reiner had previously shown "absolute horror" and condemned political violence unequivocally after the shooting of another individual.

An Ironic Link: The Art of the Deal

Providing a layer of past irony, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the artist who shot the photograph for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once recounted the anecdote of the session, mentioning Trump's demand for "a specific hair product" as being photographed on a high-rise overlooking Central Park.
