Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer who crafted many legendary styles worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

This news arrives just weeks after he presented his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in crafting sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included several ensembles for her American tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles mourns the loss to a true visionary whose legacy on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
