Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family navigate their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to evolve comedy past its prevailing layer of irony. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
